Recycling basics

  • Prince George’s County has single-stream recycling; everything can be put into the same recycling bin. 
  • Cardboard boxes marked with a large X can be used, although they will be collected along with their content.

What you can recycle: Metals, mixed paper/corrugated cardboard, glass, plastics

What you can’t recycle: Styrofoam packing peanuts, light bulbs, broken glass, windowpanes & mirrors, motor oil & antifreeze containers, auto parts

Items accepted: Electronics, fluorescent light bulbs, car & household batteries, insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers, cooking oil, propane tanks, fuel, household hazardous wastes, oil based paints and batteries

Composting
Call 301-985-5032 to receive a free composting bin from the City of Hyattsville.

What you can compost: Grass clippings, fruits, vegetables, coffee grinds (with filters) & tea bags, newspaper, cardboard & wet paper, paper plates, egg shells….and much more!
